Pastoral Coaching

On a long flight to Africa this week, I read MOJO: How To Get It, How to Keep It, How To Get it Back If You Lose It by Marshall Goldsmith. What an insightful roadmap at that altitude to achieve an out-of-this-world attitude!

Do you have “MOJO” or “NOJO”? What about the team around you? Marshall states, “Mojo is the moment when we do something that is purposeful, powerful, and positive, and the rest of the world recognizes it.” Our Mojo is apparent when the positive feelings toward what we are doing radiates from inside us and are evident for others to see. In other words, there is no gap between the positive way we view ourselves–what we are doing–and how we are perceived by others. This is Mojo!

The four elements of the MOJO persona are: 1) Identity: Who do you think you are? 2) Achievement: What have you done lately? 3) Reputation: Who do other people think you are? 4) Acceptance: What can you change and what is beyond your control?

The opposite of “Mojo” is “Nojo,” the negative spirit toward what we are doing that starts from the inside and radiates to the outside. It is our choice to:

Move Forward      or      March in Place
