For several months, we have been teaching through the Book of Ephesians. I am calling this series, “Living Life From A Heavenly Edge.” There are seven pillars to make up the Church’s unity or harmony. We have already come to understand the first two pillars are “one body” and “one Spirit.”
Number Three: One Hope
In Ephesians 4:4 we read, “There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling.” What is the one hope? It is the second coming of Jesus Christ. The Bible calls His coming “the blessed hope”. All true believers in Christ are waiting for Jesus Christ to come again. You cannot call yourself a Bible Christian if you do not believe in this one hope: the second coming of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
We may have different views of the second coming of Jesus. There are technical terms – a-millennial, pre-millennial, and post-millennial.
The longer I serve Christ, the more I simply want to say is, “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” There is one hope, and it is the second coming of our Lord. I believe that we’re getting very close to his return.
When I survey what is going on in our world today, the more convinced I am that Jesus is coming soon! In Mathew 24, Jesus spoke of the signs of the end times. He talks about earthquakes and calamities. Then Jesus said, “all of these are the beginning of sorrows.'”
The word for “sorrows” is the word for “birth pains.” When a woman is going to deliver a baby, she has what is called in Matthew 24, sorrows. These are labor pains.
Jesus said when these things come to pass, “look up your redemption draws near.” I believe sincerely, without being a sensationalist, we’re living in the closing shadows of an age, and our one hope, and the only hope of this world, is the second coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
As the Church races toward the finish line for the completion of the Great Commission, there is a prophetic aspect of speeding up the return of Christ. May we be renewed in our blessed hope!
