Dear Visionary Leader,

The Assemblies of God comprises more than 335,000 churches in 212 nations. Since its beginning in 1914, the Assemblies of God has continued to experience enormous growth, including new global goals of more than 500,000 churches and more than 100 million members by 2020.

Last week, Dr. George O. Wood, the General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Dr. James Hudson Taylor IV, Director of Mobilization, Overseas Missions Fellowship (formerly China Inland Mission), CoChair/Chinese Church, and Dr. James O. Davis, CoChair/Global Networking, met for two days at the Assemblies of God Headquarters, Springfield, Missouri. Dr. Wood was born in China, as his parents served as missionaries before being ordered out with all the missionaries in 1949. Dr. Wood will bring a keynote message at the Synergize 3! Pastors Conference.

Strategic meetings were held with Dr. Ronald Maddux, Regional Director of China. Also, along with Dr. Ken Horn, Editor of the Pentecostal Evangel, Dr. Davis cohosted the “Pentecostal Evangel Connections,” a global web program aired weekly. This edition of “PE Connections” will feature an up-close and personal interview of Dr. James Hudson Taylor IV, the great-grandson of the legendary missions pioneer, J. Hudson Taylor.

Visionary Coaching

In the early 1800’s a young couple prayed for a baby, and specifically for a boy who could grow up to be a missionary to the “new frontier“ of China. In 1853, their son, James Hudson Taylor, set sail from England and arrived in China six months later, in 1854. God answered that praying couple and the world has never been the same.

In 2009, when Billion Soul learned that James Hudson Taylor III passed away, we began a pursuit to connect with James Hudson Taylor IV, who lives in Taiwan. After hearing his powerful message at Oxford University that same year, I flew from Washington, D.C. to Houston just to have breakfast with him. There, the Holy Spirit networked our hearts together to do our part to help fulfill the Great Commission.

Last week, after we left the Assemblies of God Headquarters, we flew together to Memphis, Tennessee to minister at Mid-America Seminary and to partner with Steve Rogers, President of the Pastor Training Institute, based in West Palm Beach, Florida. It was our joy to also to visit with Joyce Rogers, widow of the late Adrian Rogers, in her home.

While at Mid-America Seminary, Dr. Taylor brought an incredible message entitled, “Four Global Missional Doors.“ To help you as we synergize our efforts to complete the Great Commission together, here are the four global doors our Lord has opened:

 

  • The Door Of Reaching The Unreached Peoples (2 Cor. 2:12). It was at Troas, Paul received the Macedonia vision to go where the Gospel had never been heard before. Today, our missional vision must include going where no one has ever gone before.
  • The Door Of City Transformation (1 Cor. 16:8) Throughout the world, people are moving to the cities. In China, more than 300 million people are migrating to the cities.
  • The Door of Gospel Proclamation (Col. 4:2) Just as the Apostle Paul needed courage to preach Christ to his generation, we must have enough courage to proclaim the Gospel today. We are not called to get along for the sake of getting along.
  • The Door Of Crossing Cultures (Acts 14:26) The Gospel has to be contextualized so that people can understand it. James Hudson Taylor I was the first to stop wearing Western clothing so Chinese would not see his clothes as a hindrance to coming to Christ.

 

Be challenged today to see further than you have seen, believe bigger than ever before and network like your life and ministry depended on it. How many souls will you and your ministry be responsible to bring into the Kingdom this year? How many churches will you plant in your lifetime? When can you start?

The measures, pleasures and treasures of this world do not compare to what our Lord is preparing for those who are faithful to the end. Blessings!
