I believe unequivocally it is God’s will for each of us to live with the cutting edge in our lives and ministries. Without the power of God daily working in us and working for us, we will expend a lot of energy without much effectiveness. There are five steps to recovering the cutting edge in the leader’s life. Last week, we learned that we must admit it’s loss. This week, we will learn:

We Must Acknowledge Its Loan

When the young prophet lost the cutting edge, he did not try to hide it or conceal it. He immediately went to Elisha and said, “for it was borrowed.” This young man knew the cutting edge came from somewhere else. Power for service comes from God. We never possess God’s power, God’s power possesses us.

We live in a time, when so many Christian leaders in the west, are striving to be seeker sensitive in our local churches. Please do not misunderstand me. We need to build bridges to the lost and we need to be culturally relevant in our communities and nation. Yet, we must never forget, it is the power of the Holy Spirit that draws people to Jesus Christ. Jesus is the greatest magnetic force of all! Our goal is not to make our church attractive to the community but to make Christ attractive to our community. When we lift Him up, through the power of the Holy Spirit, all people will be drawn into Him.

I submit to you, that each day, we need to invite the Holy Spirit fresh and anew into our souls and ask him to refresh our lives for service that day. The cutting edge has been loaned to us. Before the Day of Pentecost, the Apostle Peter struggled to stand for Christ before a maiden at a campfire, but on the Day of Pentecost, Peter had the power to stand before a multitude to preach Christ. What made the difference? Before the Day of Pentecost, Peter had lost the edge in his life; but, on the Day of Pentecost he had recovered the edge and had powerful effectiveness!

We need to realize that “power for service” has been loaned to us. Our prayer is for the ten million plus churches worldwide to experience the power of the Holy Spirit today! Blessings.
