Hand Me Another Brick Leadership Series: Part Five

Dear Visionary Leader,

One of the most strategic things we can ever do to help garner our success is to do thorough research. Over the years, I have watched fellow-leaders try to duplicate what someone else has already done in their lives. I watch them as they take other leader’s ideas and try to bring them into a completely different culture. Yet, most of time, these leaders fail because they were not willing to do the necessary research to figure out why and how the other leader they are copying concluded to do what he/she did to accomplish their success. Additionally, they do not know how many times the other leader failed and failed before discovered the missing secret for success in their lives. The greater the research the greater the rewards!

In Nehemiah 2:13, we read, “And I went out by night by the gate of the valley, even before the dragon well, and to the dung port, and viewed the walls of Jerusalem, which were broken down, and the gates thereof were consumed with fire. Then I went on to the gate of the fountain, and to the king’s pool: but there was no place for the beast that was under me to pass. Then went I up in the night by the brook, and viewed the wall, and turned back, and entered by the gate of the valley, and so returned” (Nehemiah 2:13-15). Last week, we learned the first principle of building great success is to fix our focus. Now, we will learn and apply the second outstanding principle: Find The Facts.

Principle Two: Find The Facts

What is Nehemiah doing? He’s riding in the middle of the night getting all the facts. He wants to see what the condition really is for the people of God. He’s not like an ostrich that sticks his head in the sand. He’s saying, “Really, what are the facts?” And, once he sees these facts, then he’s ready to go and do God’s work.

What were the facts that he saw? He saw that God’s work was in ruins and in shambles. He saw that the walls around the city of Jerusalem, that had been a thing of strength, a thing of beauty, a thing that brought glory to God, were town down and destroyed.

What does that mean to us today? I want to tell you that the walls of orthodoxy have crumbled, and Satan today has developed a juiceless, polished type of preacher, who has substituted culture for Calvary, and reformation for regeneration.

We have satanic cults today-deadly cults-that have been vomited up out of the pit. These people are going from house to house, and door to door, using the Master’s method and the devil’s message. They are set on fire from Hell, They are filled with deadly poison.

Not only have the walls of orthodoxy crumbled, but the walls of decency have crumbled. We are living in a money-motivated, sex-soaked, distorted age, that no longer breaks our hearts. We just simply overlook today the sins that slink their ways down the main streets of societies.

In order for any leader to have maximum influence and impact in his/her culture, it is paramount that he/she find the facts. We are not able to make the correct decisions and measure our level of effectiveness until know we know the facts. We need to become a “spiritual Nehemiah.” I challenge you to go out and make a survey and find out for yourself what the situation is where you live and serve.
