We make up our minds to build an extraordinary ministry to the glory of the Lord, sooner or later, ridicule will come our way.
Our enemy comes with The Rottenness Of Ridicule. The first thing they ridiculed was the feebleness of God’s people. In Nehemiah 4:2, “And he spoke before his brethren and the army of Samaria, and said ‘what do these feeble Jews?‘”
We are a feeble people if you look at it according to the world’s standards. When the world measures things by numbers, by size, by prestige, by fiancés and so forth. They look at us and they think of the church, and the church worldwide is just a feeble little group. They’re not much impressed with us, because the world is impressed by size and by prestige.
Sanballat was saying, “Ha, ha, look at them – feeble people!” Yet, the world makes the mistake of measuring Christianity by the size of the people.
We may not look like much, but I want to tell you, the Bible says God hath chosen the weak things of this world to confound the wise and the mighty. We are laughed at sometimes because of our feebleness.
Second, Nehemiah and his team were laughed at because of the futility of the task. In Nehemiah 4:2, we read, “Will they make an end in a day? Will they revive the stones out of the heaps of rubbish that are burned?”
That is, they’ll never do what they say that they’re going to do. It just can’t be done. It may look like we have a futile task, but we’re going to win. Just mark it down, we’re going to win. We cannot lose. We will prevail.
Woodrow Wilson said, “I had rather temporarily lose with a cause that must ultimately succeed, then temporarily succeed with a cause that must ultimately fail.” The Church will win!
Third, they also mocked the foolishness of their faith. In Nehemiah 4:2, we read, “Will they sacrifice?” Now, he’s mocking their religion. He’s mocking their very faith. And people mock our very faith. In I Corinthians 1:18, “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness.”
People laugh at the things we preach. They hear us preaching about a crucified Christ and our magnificent Savior, and they laugh.
Fourth, they laughed at the frailty of their work. In Nehemiah 4:3, we read, “Even that which they build, if a fox go up, he shall even break down their stone wall.” That is a little old fox crawling over their stone wall’s going to break it down. That is, it’s not going to last. And again, the world mocks and laughs. That’s what the world says – it won’t last.
You see the devil hasn’t changed his tactics. He’s still mocking. He’s still laughing. If are you’re doing a work for God, you might as well get ready, you’re going to face some ridicule.
As we move toward FINISH 2030 (www.billion.tv), there will be people and leaders, who will say this is not possible and it cannot be done. In the days in which we live, it is extremely important for us to bind together and build one another up in our holy faith!
